Very well said GCBy3000.
I have one question, did you have any trouble while getting mortgage approval? Do you think in the changed scenario in US housing market, people like us will have problems in getting approval b'cos of our residency status and recently tightened regulations?
Well said eager_immi. Getting GC and getting job and earning is not the only thing in life. I have seen many many couple who are gc holders and citizens, giving up their career to bring up the kids for the first few years. This segment includes US citizens ( US Origin) too. Most the of the americans here have their spouse at home to take care of their kids first few years. It is not worth anybody's time and money to have a kid and put them in daycare from day one and go out and earn and pay half of it to daycare.
Enough of above, even my wife is CPA and we are married for 5 years now. She came to US dreaming about working in professional CPA firm. But my ignorance about GC process then cost her her career. She was depressed initially. I am an easy go guy and convinced her not to worry much about job. We planned and now we have 3+ year girl and a 3 weeks+ boy. Her mind is all set towards taking care of our kids and I am free from those job hunting depressions. Once both of our kids reaches 5+, she may again start to think about career. May be by then, by Gods grace, I hope to have my GC. I bought a house this year and we all live happily knowing all the uncertanites of H1. We knew it is risk to buy a house. But ultimately what is going to happen. Is anyone going to behead you in case you default or loose job? What the heck, file bankruptcy and go back to home country. At least the days we live here, we live in peace and enjoy. If you have this mindset, you will think clearly and will take positive decisions. Otherwise, everyday is hell in US for immigrants with the current GC process.
Getting GC and earning is not everything. It is only very very small part of life. Forget about it and live today's life with what you have. Worry about things which you can control. All other things will follow you automatically. Having kids is in your hand and you have to have this sooner or later. Always, sooner the better and you can use this retrogression as an opportunity to execute those projects instead of worrying over it. GOOD LUCK.

They are requiring them to transfer from L1 to H1 status for L1 extensions. This will also mean an opportunity for them to move on to better paying companies and green card sponsoring companies, when they get a H1B status. A list of well paying and greencard sponsoring companies can be found by googling for "h1b unsweatshop"

Well, culture has tremendous impact on people. Looking at the state of our country, what have we become in last 63+ years? Major percentage of population still live under poor living conditions. We are one of the most corrupted countries in the world. Some people want to live in denial. Boasting about greatness that doesn't exist is of no use to the current and future generations. We have to make our country great by changing the conditions. In order to do that, first we need to acknowledge that there are serioous issues. Unless we all unitedly agree that the conditions are pathetic and will worsen, nothing is going to change.
well said. I totally agree that the conditions in India - call it culture or problems, are pathetic. after 63+ years, rich have become filthy richer and still majority have poor quality of life. just see how much black money these filthy rich ppl hoarded in swiss banks. sure, India has great ancient history/achievements; to me, present and forseeable future matters most because that is the time I am alive ! I came to this Country on a Student Visa - This Country gave me decent paying job, much much better quality of life, low cost of living, Freedom of expression/speech, good amount of free time to invest for my personal interests.

When is the next congress session? is it in Nov/Dec (the so called lame-duck session). I am wondering about chances of having some immigration measures during that session. Being a lame-duck session, do congressmen can take up a serious measure like immigration for discussion (either CIR or SKIL)? If not - is it possible to introduce some highly desirable stop-gap measures like: ability to apply for 485 during retrogession; recapturing the unused visa numbers from previous years with soft country limits (as is done a few years back); and faster backlog reduction at BECs. In short I am wondering about our strategy for next 4-5 months; and is there a hope - however small it maybe hope of getting something done this year; Or our only hope is with next congress?
Talking about next congress - I was wondering about what is the best outcome for us during elections? Does democrats getting majority in both houses is better for us or is it other way? Or a combo is best for us (democrat majority in house with republican majority in senate).
Statutory warning: I know this post is full of questions of general nature (i.e. there is no definite answer). I am posting to discuss/speculate the chances of any immig measures making it in 06 or early 07.

1. Good health (which we often take for granted)
YEs
2. US born kids (at least they are citizens, if that's important to you)
Not married no kids
3. US education (a different experience for sure)
No us education
4. Good savings (all said and done, your bank balance is very important no matter where you stay in the world)
No savings no big salary
5. Good work experience (this is transferable and more or less ensures a decent future)
Yeah just started career
6. Loving/caring family/friends (who will always love you the same and couldn't care less about GC or citizenship)
Dont know about that
Been herr from 7 years..
Dear,
What are you doing for 7 years in US if you have not studied here and just started career ? or I have mis-understood what you said above?
But to me if you are not saving some money while in US, its not worth it staying here, away from family/friends.
Good Luck

everyone here is in favor of supporting BILLS and what not for recapturing VISA's and stuff.. but I believe Prevention is better than cure... why do we have to support or introduce these BILLS in the first place.. if USCIS had worked effeciently all these years ? I think instead of introducing BILLS after 5 years to recapture VISAa why cant we do something to make USCIS efficeint right now ??
Make USCIS more transparent and efficient -- that should be the GOAL.

Mehul,
I am sitting here wondering what to say...My gut feeling says that you will make it through and you still have 6 months to turn the whole situation around.
But, first get your hands on this movie and watch it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_b1GKGWJbE8
It is on a book called "The Secret" by Rhonda Byrne. Watch the movie and start believing in yourself and go for whatever treatment is available.
You will make it bro..

Hello Sir,
While opinions are good and welcome. My requirement is to see the exact INA language.
I have read the INA Sec 203 multiple times, I could not find the link between ebquota and ebdependents. May be I am missing it. Can some one show the exact lines in INA ?
Think about this "5 year old derivative kid" is counted in ebquota. How did the kid qualify for ebquota ? The law clearly says "to qualified immigrants who are aliens described in any of the following subparagraphs" and then goes on to say the exact qualification.
Don't take me out of context. I do want the kid to get greencard, however I am against the kid being counted in ebquota.
I am yet to get the access to ( I am a recent donor ) donor thread that refers the exact INA language. Can some other donor post the exact INA language in this thread ?
Thanks
I spoke with our attorney
He said
INA Sec 203 talks only about the eligibility to apply the I-485. But the visa number is derived from a relationship to Principal applicant of green card. This is true for all categories Including investor, asylum, Employment categories. Please note that It is Dept of State that is responsible for this allocation not USCIS.

Hi Everybody
I'm almost at checkout for sending flowers. Interestingly I noticed that there are other forums where people are discussing the immigration issues and also where people are effected.
Lets make it a massive campaign. We can have a link on the immigration voice home page with exact details on the address and date (final) and impress on people that it shall work.
I noticed that many Chinese use other forums in Chinese language. In fact I requested one of friends to post these details in their forum as well. May be each one of us can forward the details to others by E-mail or other wise. Try to make 10th July as big day for USCIS leaving all document packages aside but busy handling the roses.
Media would definitely be happy discussing the approach for days and in way discuss the issue as well.
Flowers do bring smile and a little bit of introspection to every one.
Lets do it big way.
Thanks
