It all depends on how you look at it. Under the h1b program anyone is a indentured slave, just not indian software engineers. There are good consulting companies and do pay well.

This seems to be perception based on what people hear or see, but in reality, if the person is capable and good, he/she does not have issues with employer/ nor does employer has issues with the person. While Desi consulting companies seem to stretch rules and have their own ways of handling business, they are also a part of the system. They act like a feeder to system, acting as buffer between layoffs and also specialize in immigration and can be really flexible at times and also give you a share of the billing rates which is not possible in a permanant job where there is career stagnation and lack of mobility.

I find that Silverlight and related .NET stuff works extremely well cross-platform. Apps like Banshee (http://banshee-project.org/) are cross-platform (really, not like Flash and AIR which suck on Linux and Mac) and work wonderfully on every platform (alright, bad example: there’s not a Windows port at the moment, because of the underlying audio libraries, but it’s all C# stuff).
Mono is implementing a really nice open-source version of Silverlight (I forget its name), and Silverlight works great on Mac.

why EAD renewal can take up to 3 months? (90 days). It just does not make sense. I can understand if it is fresh application OR it has been expired for quite sometime before applying for renewal. If it is fresh app, there might be some security checks, application verificaiton checks etc. But EAD Renewal is very simple. You were approved once, your application does not boast any address changes. All you are requesting is renewal based on pending I-485. No common sense!:eek:
This is very very unacceptable and shows the lazyness of USCIS in adjucating timely. But they are VERY TIMELY in increasing fees....:eek:
I know I am very furious but dont we think we should raise some momentum in allowing special processing for EAD renewal or allowing local offices to issue Renewals for EAD which has been eliminated now????

I believe in freedom of speech but Dobbs is using the CNN platform to spew hate. A legitimate debate is fine but hate speech is not ok.
I used to believe that ignore him was the best way to deal with him but after seeing some of the so called Tax parties, I am starting to think that ignoring him does not work.
Please also post this to other web forums, facebook, twitter and send emails to your friends and colleagues asking them to sign the petition.

However since your 485 is getting approved, your PD is presumably current meaning she is eligible to immediately file 485, and get to that as a legal status. If she has a dependent visa approved, and has travelled here thats nice, otherwise she has to file a 485 from your home country as a follow-to-join and htat can take some time for her to travel here.
There is no 6 month grace period as such. Its just that upto 6 months of out-of-status is forgiven at 485 approval, and since on your 485 approval your H1 ends and so does her h4, it makes her status-less here. Being in that state upto 6 months is forgiven for 485.
Its most important that you get married before the approval of your 485. Do court-marriage if your PD is current, to be on the safe side, even if the actual ceremony is still a month or two away. When to honeymoon is upto you. Cant let USCIS decide EVERYTHING, can we...

My LC was filed as Database developer. After about 200 days of I-485, I switched job as Manager. I sent the job description to my attorney and they said I could switch as the job in same or similar "SOC Code". They also said that there is no need to let USCIS know about the change as it is optional. If USCIS issues a RFE, we will respond appropriately.
The only thing I ensured and you should ensure too is to keep all paperwork in a safe and readily accessible place. You should keep pay stubs from old company as well as new one, job description and offer letter from both employers, and a document detailing circumstances of your job change (such as you changed job because you were afraid that due to market conditions, the company may go out of business or your dept may get outsourced etc etc...)
P.S. - The attorney is a very renowned attorney and my old and current employers both are Fortune 50 companies.

Sent H1B extension papers on Oct. 16th under Premium Processing to VSC.
Got e-mail on Oct. 24th that it got transferred to CA and a decision will be made within 15 days.
On Oct. 26 online status showed that this case has been approved. Also got e-mail the same day regarding the approval.

I decided to apply I485 as future employment. My attorney charged complete GC fees when I got I140 approval. So now I have to pay only application fees but not any attorney charges. Do you guys know info about following?
